Epic Games, the publisher behind Fortnite, has announced a significant update regarding Fortnite tournaments: the removal of region locking, except for the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS).

This immediate change allows players participating in ongoing events that were previously region-locked to now compete across multiple regions. For instance, European players can now join North American events, and vice versa.

This marks a departure from Epic Games’ previous policy, which strictly limited players to competing in a single region. Previously, if a player participated in the North American Victory Cup, they were barred from entering the European Victory Cup. With this new ruling, players have the flexibility to compete in the same tournament across different regions.

Moreover, players who originally created their accounts in Asia but wish to compete in another region can now do so freely.

While Epic Games did not elaborate on the reasons behind this decision, the move opens up more opportunities for players to compete internationally and potentially increase their earnings.

Fortnite, known for its dynamic gameplay and regular updates, has evolved significantly since its launch in 2017. The game undergoes periodic “chapters,” which introduce substantial changes to keep gameplay fresh and engaging. Epic Games has dedicated considerable resources to Fortnite’s development and growth.

Earlier this year, Epic Games attracted attention when Disney invested $1.5 billion (~£1.2 billion) in the game developer, with a specific focus on Fortnite. However, the company also underwent restructuring last year, primarily affecting the Rocket League team.
